Videography & Editing by James Ryan Serpico

In this dynamic highlight video, shot and edited by James Ryan Serpico, we capture the energy, precision, and passion of the Boerne High School Marching Band during their standout performance at the 2023 Metallica Marching Band Competition. This piece celebrates their first-place victory in the medium-sized school division, showcasing both the musical excellence and visual flair that earned them top honors.

What I Did

Cinematography

I served as the Sole videographer, using a combination of handheld and stabilized shots to track the band’s formation work and musical execution across the field. My approach focused on:

  • Smooth coverage of complex marching sequences

  • Tight close-ups on key performers and instrumental sections

  • Wide shots that highlight formations and crowd interaction

Editing & Storytelling

I assembled the footage into a cohesive, engaging narrative that reflects the energy of the performance. This involved:

  • Cutting to the rhythm of the music to enhance pacing

  • Color grading to bring vibrancy and depth to the visuals

  • Selective re-framing for emphasis on standout moments

The result is a visually compelling video that elevates both the performance and the pride of the Boerne High School ensemble, making it perfect for promotional use, social sharing, and future ensemble retrospectives.
